From waterfalls pouring straight out of glaciers to volcanic beaches shaped by the Atlantic, this journey showcases the very best of Iceland’s south coast.
Our first highlights are two of the region’s most powerful waterfalls. At Seljalandsfoss, glacier meltwater spills over a high cliff, and in the right conditions, you can follow the path that leads behind the falling water. Nearby, the mighty Skógafoss crashes down with raw force, while a staircase beside the falls offers elevated views over the surrounding landscape.
We then make our way to the dramatic shoreline of Reynisfjara, where black sand, basalt columns, and pounding waves create one of Iceland’s most iconic scenes. Lunch is enjoyed at the Black Beach Restaurant, with panoramic views of the coast.
The drive continues past the village of Vík and along the vast landscapes of Vatnajökull National Park, a region defined by glaciers, ice caps, and dramatic mountain peaks.
Typical accommodation:
Hótel Glacier Lagoon, Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon, Magma Hotel or similar.
Glaciers, sweeping ice fields, and ever-changing natural formations define the day as we explore the dramatic landscapes of Iceland’s south-east in the soft light of summer.
The experience begins at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where enormous icebergs drift slowly across the shimmering water after breaking away from the glacier. Seals are often spotted swimming between the ice, adding life to this already surreal setting. Just across the road, fragments of ice wash ashore at Diamond Beach, sparkling against the black volcanic sand like scattered crystals.
The adventure continues with a journey onto the glacier itself. Traveling by super jeep, we head into a remote glacial area before setting off on foot for a guided glacier hike. Walking across the ancient ice, you’ll discover deep crevasses, sculpted ridges, and striking formations shaped by centuries of movement and meltwater. Along the way, your guide will share insights into this constantly changing environment—creating perfect moments for unforgettable photos.
With long summer daylight and open landscapes, this is the ideal season to truly experience the scale and beauty of Vatnajökull up close.
After this once-in-a-lifetime experience, we begin the scenic drive back toward Reykjavík. A relaxed late lunch at a local restaurant rounds off the day, with arrival in the city comfortably in time for dinner—bringing your Private Glacier Lagoon 2-Day Tour to a memorable close.
