  • 20-49 pictures on top of base package: 900 ISK /each photo

Please note that the Northern Lights tours are specific, and in this case the final amount of photos from your adventure will depend entirely on weather conditions. Be aware that sometimes the aurora shows up only for a very short time, so we’ll take one photo for every individual at first, then we can play more with additional photos if the Northern Lights are still visible. In favorable conditions you can expect between 5 to 10 photos –  always fully professional and edited.

What’s the difference between Private Tours and Small Group Tours?

Private Tours offer complete flexibility – you can customize the itinerary, departure times, and pick-up location, making it a truly personalized, intimate experience, perfectly crafted to your needs and expectations.
Small Group Tours, on the other hand, follow a fixed itinerary with scheduled pick-up points in Reykjavik, perfect for travelers seeking a more budget-friendly option while still getting the same high-quality, unforgettable Icelandic adventure.

What’s the maximum group size for your tours? Is there a limit of participants?

Our Small Group Tours are limited to a maximum of 10 people to ensure an intimate and comfortable experience, while for Private Tours the group size is more flexible, depending on your preferences and the tour itself. There’s a minimum number of 5 participants required for a Group Tour to take place.

What should I wear during the tour?

We recommend dressing in layers due to Iceland’s unpredictable weather. Thermal layers, a waterproof jacket, and sturdy hiking boots are essential for most tours. If you’re doing extra activities like glacier hiking, remember to bring gloves, hats, and an additional pair of socks. For any geothermal bathing, if included in your tour, don’t forget to pack your swimsuit and a towel.
You can also refer to our dedicated blog post on essential things to pack for Iceland, which will work as your best, ultimate packing guide!

Is food provided during the tour?

Food is not typically included, but we do make stops at local cafés and restaurants during the tours. For longer tours, like the South Coast, we recommend bringing snacks and drinks. Some tours, such as the Golden Circle, include a stop at the Friðheimar Tomato Farm, where you can enjoy a delicious meal.

What should I bring with me? Do I need special equipment?

  • Essentials: Warm clothing, waterproof layers, sturdy shoes, sunglasses, and a refillable water bottle
  • For specific activities: For glacier hikes or snowmobiling, we provide helmets and safety gear, but warm clothing and gloves are still recommended.
  • For swimming: Bring a swimsuit and towel for hot spring or lagoon tours.
  • Photography enthusiasts: While we provide professional photos, feel free to bring your camera if you want to take additional pictures.
  • Snacks and beverages: To keep your energy levels high!

What is the pick-up process for Premium Group Tours?

For our Group Tours, pick-up is from designated points in Reykjavik. The exact locations will be confirmed after booking, and pick-up typically starts at 8:30 AM. Refer to the information and the map available on our dedicated *PICK-UP FOR SMALL GROUPS* page.
Please be ready at your selected location at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time.

What kind of vehicle is used for the tours?

Our tours are conducted in Premium Vehicles designed for Iceland’s rugged terrain. For more adventurous tours like glacier hikes or off-road excursions, we use specially equipped Super Jeeps or off-road vehicles, ensuring comfort and safety even in the most remote areas. You are free to choose the type of vehicle for your Private Tour when booking a specific experience – select your preferred option either from Premium Vehicle Tours or Super Jeep Tours.

Can I book a tour if I'm traveling solo?

Of course! Solo travelers are more than welcome to join our Small Group Tours. These tours provide a great opportunity to meet fellow adventurers. Alternatively, you can always book a Private Tour for a more personalized experience – it all depends on your preferences and budget.

Will the tour run in bad weather?

Iceland’s weather can be unpredictable, but most of our tours go ahead regardless of rain or snow. Our guides adapt to the weather conditions, ensuring safety and enjoyment. If severe weather makes it unsafe, we will either reschedule or provide a full refund. We keep a close eye on forecasts, and your safety is always our priority.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made more than 48 hours’ notice will receive a full refund minus 10% transaction and administration fee.
Cancellations within 48 hours are non-refundable, but we can often help you reschedule to another date if possible.
To cancel your booking and get a refund, please email us at: hello@icelandicroamers.is.
NOTE: the 48-hour policy does not honor cancellation requests sent through other channels.

Will I see Aurora Borealis if I book the Northern Lights tour?

While we cannot guarantee a sighting of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), we do everything possible to maximize your chances. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and visibility depends on factors such as weather conditions, cloud cover, and solar activity.
Our tours are designed to give you the best opportunity to see them, and we monitor weather and aurora forecasts closely. If the conditions aren’t ideal, we may adjust the timing of the tour or reschedule it for another night, giving you the final decision no later than 2h before the pick-up time. In the event of no sightings during your tour, we offer a free rebooking on another night. Unfortunately we can’t offer refunds for missing the Lights during the tour.
In case we cancel your tour due to unfavourable weather conditions (or lack of the minimum of 5 participants needed for a Premium Small Group Tour to run), you’ll be eligible for a full refund. If your prefer we can also offer you rebooking for another date instead – in this case, feel free to go with us as many times as you wish until you finaly see the Lights!
For the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights, we recommend booking between September and April, which are the peak months for aurora activity.

What’s the duration of your tours?

  • Golden Circle: Around 8 hours.
  • South Coast: 10-12 hours depending on conditions and stops.
  • Northern Lights: 3-4 hours.
Longer tours, such as glacier hikes, may vary, so check the individual tour pages for details.

Do I need travel insurance?

While travel insurance isn’t required, we highly recommend it. Travel insurance can protect you in case of medical emergencies, cancellations, or other unforeseen events that may arise during your trip.

What time of year is best for your tours?

While most travelers enjoy Icelandic beauty the most in winter time, each season offers something unique!

  • Summer (June-August): Long daylight hours, ideal for highland exploration and hiking.
  • Winter (November-February): Perfect for Northern Lights, ice caves, and snowmobiling.
  • Spring/Fall: A quieter time with fewer tourists and beautiful seasonal changes.

Are your tours family-friendly?

Yes, many of our tours are designed to be enjoyed by travelers of all ages. We provide a safe and comfortable environment for families, and our professional guides ensure that every family member has an engaging and memorable experience.

Can I customize a private tour?

Absolutely! Private tours are entirely customizable. Whether you want to explore off-the-beaten-path locations, adjust the timing, or focus on specific sights, we work with you to design the perfect itinerary tailored to your preferences.

Do you organize glacier hikes or other activities on the Golden Circle and South Coast tours?

Yes, we offer several add-on activities for both Golden Circle and South Coast tours. These include:
  • Golden Circle Tours: Alongside iconic stops like Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, and Gullfoss, you can add a snowmobiling tour on Langjökull Glacier or snorkeling in the Silfra Fissure. These must be booked in advance and are available for an additional fee.
  • South Coast Tours: Popular extras include a glacier hike on Sólheimajökull Glacier, led by certified guides who provide all the necessary gear. You can also choose ice cave explorations or ATV rides, adding adventure to your South Coast experience.
All activities are provided by third party companies we tried and trust. Pricing and availability are listed on the respective tour pages, so you can book and plan accordingly in advance.
