Black, white and grey, occasionally spiced up with all shades of bluish green? Iceland shows its true colors to those who visit it… in the summer! If you’ve been considering booking your holidays somewhere between June and September, don’t hesitate any longer to visit Icelandic Highlands. Our off-roaders are ready to traverse the bumpiest paths which will take you to the Highlands – the very heart of Iceland. We will show you the side of Iceland that differs from common preconceived notions about the Land of Fire and Ice.

We will jump start the day feeding our eyes with the view of endless cascades of water running down among lava fields. First astonishing pictures will be painted by the Hjálparfoss waterfall, near one of the most active icelanding stratovolcanoes called Hekla. Split in two with a lovely pond in front, the meeting point of the rivers Fossá and Þjórsá ows the name Hjálp (meaning ”help”) to the interesting history of its surrounding area.

Next, time for a bigger player. The third largest waterfall in Iceland, named Háifoss, is waiting for us just half an hour long ride away. With its 122 metres (400 feet) “High Waterfall” remains the most impressive of the grand trio. From the viewing spot nearby you’ll also have the chance to spot it together with Granni Waterfall and capture both waterfalls in a single frame.

Before we move to the main attraction of the day let’s catch a glimpse of yet another waterfall, the one and only Sigöldufoss, located in the canyon often called Valley of Tears. Its uniqueness lies in quite a turbulent history as the waterfall’s current form and the height of 20m are the result of transformations caused by building the hydroelectric power plant on the Tungnaá river. Nowadays, the Highlands’ secret gorge is a real treat for photographers who marvel at the striking turquoise color of the water and the contrasting landscapes on both sides of the canyon. All the beautiful surroundings will add to the impression of your landing on another planet. Total wilderness, black sand, volcanic craters – it all makes the raw beauty of this place’s nature awe-inspiring and unforgettable.

Reaching the mountains we’ll also pass by two volcanic craters, Bláhylur, Ljótipollur, filled with gorgeous blue water. Picture perfect opportunity alert! These gems will look their best framed and hung on the wall above your bed.

Last but not least, we reach our ultimate destination, the magnificent Landmannalaugar. Attracting lovers of active holidays, Landmannalaugar offers much more than “just” epic hikes along the trails surrounded by rainbow-colored mountains. It’s a geothermal oasis with hot springs which we can jump into and recharge our batteries before the ride back. Many wild rivers will challenge our unbeatable Defender and the rough, post-volcanic terrains contrasting with the rich colors of the hills will make you gasp at the view of such miracles of nature, right at your fingertips…

One thing is certain that you’ll wish this day would never end! On the positive note, you can always come back for more adventures and the memories of Highlands will stay with you forever – just like the astonishing shots taken by our professional photographer, who happens to be your guide 🙂
